Once you have settled on your ultimate goal, take a good look at it and then shop it down into lots of bite size pieces. The magnitude of a big goal makes it seem overwhelming. For instance, you may want to become a millionaire but the moment you think about it, you lose your calm because that gigantic goal is intimidation or overwhelming. However, once you break it done into steps such as first start a small home based bakery, slowly expand the business and get a shop on rent and then slowly purchase that store and expand to another city, it becomes easier to digest. It no longer seems impossible to you; rather, you gain clarity on what you need to do to accomplish that goal. As they say, success is a product of many small accomplishments. Think of what your goal is and then slash it into many tiny pieces so you have something to do every day to achieve that big goal. As you break your goal into numerous smaller, doable tasks, write them down in your journal so you have a list of all the things you need to do to meet a certain goal.
Have a short term and a medium term goal that takes you towards your long term goal. If you long term goal is to become an internationally renewed self-help public speaker, our medium term goal could be to become a nationally acclaimed public speaker and short term goal could be to gain recognition of state level. After identifying your milestones, take your short term goal and determine how to accomplish it. Defined that goal in detail so you know exactly what it entails and peg it to a timeline so you know when it is due.
Next, plan how to make time for working on the tasks relating to a goal so you can get started with your plan of action. Remind that tasks yourself of the bigger picture you must fulfill and use it as motivation to improve your time management skills. Create daily, weekly and monthly to do lists related to the tasks you have to do to accomplish your short term goal. Prioritize tasks that result in maximum output. Also, assign on difficult task to every day or every two to three days depending on its nature. Do that tasks at the beginning of your day. You know nothing worse can happen and when you accomplish something challenging, you become inspired to work on several other tasks too.
Every day before going to bed, revisit your “to do list” for the next day so you plan forehand and prepare for the next day before it starts. This also helps you make necessary changes to your routine and to do lists as you experience different situations, this makes you adaptable and resilient. When you do third daily, you nurture the habit and use it to plan a better future,
