Spending time with loved ones and social contracts in not enough. You also have to show them your love and care. Quite often, we do not say little things like, I love you or you mean a lot to me to our loved ones. In fact, we often disregard the fact that they may be looking forward to hearing these words from us. Years pass by and when our dear ones bid us goodbye, we start regretting why we did not express out love to them.
To keep loved ones close to you and happy, be more expressive towards them. Instead of being stingy with your words and caring gestures, be more generous when it comes to loving them and showing it.
Get into the habit of showing your affection, love and care to all those who mean the world to you and those that add color to your seemingly dull life.
Habitually send loving text messages or emails to your partner, spouse, parents, kids, best friends and other love once a day or at least once every two days. When you wake up, send a sweet message to your parents letting them know you are thinking of them. In the evening, you could send a voice message or a short video of yourself saying kind things to your loved ones. Do this until doing so becomes a hard to break habit.
When you meet your loved ones, do not just shake hands with them. Instead, go the extra mile and give them nice, warm hug. Hugs are one of the best present in the world, they speak volumes about your love for your dear ones. A simple hug often does wonders, something many words alone cannot do. The next time you meet your best friend, hug him/her hand and do it whenever you meet him/her after a while. By doing this, you slowly nurture this good habit.
Moreover, get into the habit of giving nice presets to love ones and not just on birthdays or anniversary. Regularly giving your loved ones presents is a beautiful expensive or grand, simple things can work well too. For instance, on your way back home from work, bring your wife her favorite flowers or each time you visit your mother, take along her favorite carrot cake. If you do this regularly, you will notice your loves ones showering more affection on you.
Build these habits. To sustain them, notice how much your love ones enjoy the new you. Their positive feedback and happiness will motivate you to stick to these newfound habits. Another great set of habits that can improve your emotional wellbeing is to look for the good associated with every situation you experience.
